Some fantastic images from the McDowell Benedetti Architects masterplan for the redevelopment of the JCB 9ha industrial site

to include a new 'town green' public park, a health complex, a 5,000sq m engineering innovation centre, 5,000sq m of retail, and 257 homes.

The images are reproduced from BD the Architects Website at http://www.bdonline.co.uk originally from the great submission by the Architects

OMG - typical useless development other than to the developer. What about the bank voles and the high street traders, the high street will finally be killed off. As usual the developer includes a 'health centre' to bribe the dumb ass planning department councillors who take it all in. I seem to remember one on the mackinnon development - what happened to that?
Another big question is why did we allow the bamford factory to be knocked down? For a town with limited employment possibilites a great readymade site with readymade premesis for new employers would seem a MUST to spread employer base in the town - but no fat cat bamford seems intent on making a few million more here too at whatever cost. Legacy - yeah right, ghost town more like courtesy J C B.

IS IT FANTASTIC OR FANTASTICAL? HOW BIG IS 5000SQ FOOT? ITS NOT BIG. RETAIL MEANS SUPERSTORES AND SUPERMARKETS, HOW WILL THAT HELP THE TOWN CENTRE - WHERE ARE THEY ON THE PICS. WHO WILL COME? NO-ONE CAME TO THE CATTLE MARKET SITE.A PARK? IMPROVE THAT - WHERES THE KIDS SKATEBORD PARK IN THERE? ITS JUST GRASS AND ACCESS TO THE RIVER SO THE WILDLIFE CAN BE KILLED ADN MAIMED.YES BETTER OFF WITH SOME NICE READY TO MOVE INTO FACTORIES TO BOOST UTTOXETERS ECONOMY WHEN THE RECESSION ENDS,NOW WE HAVE TO BUILD FROM SCRACTH, NOT EXACTLY ATTRACIVE PROPOSITION. HEALTH CENTRE? THERE IS ALWAYS ONE ON NEW DEVELOPMENTS WHICH SEEMS TO DISAPPEAR IN THE PRCESS. A LEGACY MR BAMFORD SHOULD BE USEFUL - PERHAPS A GOOD NEW SCHOOL SINCE WE NEED ONE AND A NEW LEISURE CENTRE - NOW THAT WOULD BE A LEGACY.
